I AM Downtown!
August 17th’s “ I am Downtown” Independence County Library:
How long has the Ind Co. Library been on Main Street?? -- The Independence County Library moved to 368 East Main Street in 1975, into the Old Post Office and Federal Building. In 2018, the Library moved to its’ current location at 267 East Main Street after a large renovation of the historic Barnett Building.
What does the Library offer?? -- The library offers a multitude of free services for the public. You can check out books, movies, audiobooks, magazines, scientific calculators, games, and even a backpack full of activities designed for young athletes, provided by the Special Olympics. We offer free activities and programs for the general public that cover a wide range of topics. From gardening, yoga, line dancing, cooking, recipe exchange club, grief support, tabletop games, video games, computers, author talks and book signings, story times, magicians, sing-alongs, poetry slams, Lego competitions, to a wide range of other activities, you can find it at the Independence County Library. Why should our community get downtown?? -- The first reason the community should come downtown is to see all the exciting changes we have been making. Between the historic buildings, the beautiful street landscapes, the unique shops, the library, and beautiful homes, not to mention the new Maxfield Park, Air BNBs, the Royal on Main Hotel, and awesome restaurants, WE’VE GOT IT ALL!
